5 Ways CBD Can Help Ease Your Mind

Even if we weren’t in the midst of a global pandemic, a climate crisis, a civil rights movement, and a political climate as divisive as ever, anxiety would still be one of the most common mental health issues faced globally. According to the World Health Organization, 1 in 13 people suffers from anxiety, and I’m pretty sure that data comes from before the dumpster fire that is 2020, so I can’t imagine the numbers would look much better now. Add social isolation, economic uncertainty, and medical fears on top of our already stressful lives, and sometimes it can feel like there are a lot more bad days than good, when it comes to our mental health.

Perhaps that is why so many of our customers want to know if CBD can help them with their anxiety, depression, or just to feel better on a daily basis. Mental health and wellness is a complex and highly individualized topic, and there is still a general lack of emphasis on mental health education and treatment in our society. That being said, if you’re curious about trying out Lovewell Farms CBD as part of your mental health self care routine, here are some of the tips, tricks, and facts that we do know about using CBD for mental wellness:

  1. Relax Your Body, Relax Your Mind

We already know about the benefits of CBD as an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, neuroprotective, and vasorelaxant (CBD Pain Blog for more info), but what does that have to do with the mind? Well, it turns out that our physical symptoms are often linked closely with our mood, and helping the body to relax can help to ease the mind, as well. It’s like taking a few deep breaths when you are experiencing a tense moment – the physical process of slowing down, opening up the chest to take in more oxygen, and relaxing the muscles as you exhale can do wonders for bringing your head space back to center.

Since CBD helps the muscles, nervous system, and vascular system to relax, those benefits can be extended to the brain, as well. If your anxiety is somewhat related to physical pain, lack of sleep, or tension in the body, CBD could help alleviate some of the symptoms associated. Why not experiment for yourself? Set aside some time to treat yourself with one of our CBD Bath Care products, close your eyes and take some of those deep breaths, and see how you feel afterwards!

  1. Better Nights = Better Days

As we mentioned in our CBD & Sleep blog, the cause of insomnia can often be anxiety-related, and many of our customers will verify that getting to sleep and staying asleep is made that much more difficult by a racing brain. Whether your evening routine involves vaping CBD flower, taking our CBD+Sleep Tincture , or massaging some topical treatments (link) onto the skin, using CBD as a natural sleep aid can help ease your mind as you lay to rest, so that you wake up feeling ready to take on another day.

  1. Self Medicating in a Healthier Way

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but it’s okay to self-medicate! Humans have been using various methods to help them survive the challenges of life on Earth for as long as we’ve been here, and even wild animals have been known to experiment with eating things that will make them intoxicated, relaxed, or what have you. Life is hard, and like it or not, coping mechanisms can be really important tools for surviving, and perhaps even thriving, despite whatever curveballs life throws at us.

Many of us are familiar with the coping mechanisms that aren’t so good for us – alcohol, food, and even prescription drugs can all be problematic if relied on too heavily, and moderation is certainly key for any substance that is used to help us get through life (yes, even coffee). Science shows that CBD, and cannabis in general, is an extremely safe alternative to many of the other substances we choose to ingest regularly, especially if it is produced responsibly (for more information about the way we produce CBD).

Taking CBD Oil Tincture daily can be a healthy, natural way to keep your endocannabinoid system in balance, and just feel more at ease on a daily basis. I like to keep a bottle by my bed to take first thing in the morning and at night, and it’s become part of my self-care routine. Try experimenting with our CBD Oil Tincture for a few weeks, and see if you notice any change in your mental wellbeing!

  1. Emerging Scientific Evidence

As we always say when it comes to CBD and therapeutic use of cannabis, the complete scientific story of this type of plant medicine is not fully understood, and there is a need for more research on CBD applications for mental health. Nevertheless, the evidence that exists so far does suggest that CBD could help with anxiety disorders. This could be because CBD interacts with CB1 and CB2 receptors in the central and peripheral nervous systems, which may alter serotonin signals in the brain, where low serotonin levels are often found in people with anxiety and depression. One study showed that CBD reduced stress levels in rats, and their physiological symptoms improved as well, which are promising results for those with Generalized Anxiety Disorder. There are also encouraging preliminary data to support the benefits of CBD for those struggling with PTSD or anxiety-induced insomnia. We need more large, controlled, repeatable studies to be conducted before we can make any claims about CBD as a treatment for anxiety, but we do know that it’s a relatively safe and inexpensive treatment to experiment with.

  1. A Safe Alternative

Anxiety and other mental health disorders are typically treated with counseling, cognitive behavior therapy, and medication. These are all important components of a mental health treatment plan, but the fact is that these methods can be extremely expensive, and even cost-prohibitive many. While we would never suggest that you take CBD instead of any of the options listed above, it can be a more accessible, cost-effective way for folks to get some relief from their mental health symptoms, outside of our traditional medical system.

The World Health Organization calls these types of treatments “complementary and alternative” to traditional treatments, and suggests yoga, meditation, and acupuncture as recommended health practices to supplement your mental health treatment. Whether you choose to go traditional, alternative, or all of the above, please don’t make any changes to your treatment plan without consulting your doctor, and definitely do not attempt to replace any prescribed medication with CBD without the proper guidance. Here at Lovewell Farms, we believe that CBD can be a safe and healthy addition to anyone’s lifestyle, and that it does have the power to make us all feel a little better every day.
